Carta Hotel Kyoto Gion

Walking distance from where we wanted to sight see. Nice view from room windows. Comfortable bed.

Wouldnt stay here again. Aside from it being centrally located its very barebones.

We stayed for 5 nights and our room was not cleaned, they dont clean rooms while you are staying there. if you want new towels you leave your old damp ones in the hallway bad coffee in lounge and cheap amenities - not good value.

Very convenient location that is out from the very busy Kyoto central area. Yet it is just a short walk from it. Very clean. Bus stop is right in front of it and connects you to many places-of- interest.

Room was a bit tight for two people.

Luggage forwarding service was not available at the hotel front desk, we had to go to convenience store instead. Was not a big deal but could be improved.

Great location, close to Gion and with a bus stop right outside the door. Short 10 min walk to larger train stations // metro. The rooms had a lot of natural lighting and felt quite modern. Everything worked as it was supposed to. Free luggage storage both before and after check-in was super helpful and the staff was friendly.

The pillows were extremely hard, so they gave me a headache. If we had stayed more than one night, I would have tried to request another one. Also our room and generally the hotel itself felt very cold (we visited in January), seems like the isolation could have been better. Airconditioner helped a bit.

Staff is nice, location is great walking distance to gion and kawarmachi. Also the city bus passes right infront of the hotel.

Almost everything. First of all, the windows don't open. Ventilation in this facility is a disaster. I got sick, and I was worried my friend would get sick too. Add that to the fact that they don't clean the room no matter how many days you say (we stayed 5 nights!!!) and you have a perfect receipe for falling ill. They do have though an air purifier in the room, but that was not enough to help freshen the air of the room. It was always stuffy, and the reception was like a sauna. Of course the rooms were also quite tiny, you cannot have more than 1 large suit case and 1 medium.

They have everything you need when you stay at Kyoto. Helpful staffs you just take a bus from Kyoto station and arrive in front of the Hotel

Staff was nice, location was great for walking to and from central Kyoto.

Room was relatively small compared to other places we’ve stayed in Japan. Bathtub was not properly sealed allowing water go behind, bathroom was small, toilet lid can barely go up without hitting the sink.

The location is very convenient as all the shopping is only a few blocks away. Also, the bus stop is literally in front of the hotel so that makes transportation from the train station very easy.

My room was never quite cool enough. The A/C was working but the room still felt warm, even with the blinds down. Perhaps the A/C could have been colder.

The staff was friendly and gave us recommendations for what to do in the area. The room was very clean and the lobby nice. They offer yukata’s for you to wear, my favorite part of our stay! I absolutely would book again

Be prepared the bed is harder than a western bed. I still slept well but those who are more sensitive may be uncomfortable

No laundry on site however they was one across the street but needs coins

The location is excellent and the staff are very friendly. My only disappointment is the carpet in the hotel is not white like the pictures, but instead dark blue/grey. This lessoned the overall clean feel of the hotel.

Windows didn’t open but there were flies in the room. The room wasn’t the cleanest - stains on the shower curtain and carpet. Carpet was blue in person but cream in the pictures.

This hotel was recommended to us. We stayed here for 3 nights and it was probably the worst hotel we have stayed in. First impressions were not great, with the room smelling like a sewer. When we opened the bathroom door, it smelt extremely bad. The bed was so uncomfortable and it felt like you were sleeping on a rock. We had a nice view of the street, but that was probably the only good thing. There was no cleaning of the rooms each day (our fault as we didn’t check this upon booking) and it was an effort to get fresh towels. If you didn’t leave them outside your room before 10am, you didn’t get them. The shower water dropped in and out when using it. I was not satisfied with my experience here and would not recommend it to anyone. The pictures make the room look quite large (for a Japanese hotel) however they are very small.

The location and the photos used on Booking.That photos are very well chosen — they make the place look bright and spacious. What they don’t show is that some rooms have blocked windows or no natural light at all. You pay the same, but the experience is completely different.

This hotel is deliberately deceiving guests. The photos show bright rooms with large windows, but they don’t warn you that some rooms have windows that are completely blocked or no windows at all. You pay the same, but get a dark, claustrophobic room. It’s dishonest and unacceptable. People need to know — avoid this place if you care about basic transparency.

Very helpful and respectful stuff, but the room wasn’t so clean. Location is excellent. The view is beautiful, but they really need to focus on cleaning the room better an example was the table and the bathroom.

the location of the hotel was in a prime spot. we enjoyed that it was walking distance to everything. the staff were very friendly as well

we were quite disappointed that we didn't get the room that we booked for. the photos showed a view, instead we got something blocking our view. we also expected the room to be way bigger than it was as shown in photos

Good location, small but ok rooms, provided shampoo and all other equipment. I was asked to pay additional taxes over the bill, which was no on bill that booking provided, when i asked what are those taxes, reception guy keep on saying these are city tax( which was already included in total price)Basically he tried to charge us twice city tax, and the end I call booking which said we should not pay! So we didnt, but he insisted on paying even after checkout.Buy the comments I that lots of people were asked to pay those fees, which they should not!
